Yanyu,a male member of the Hui ethnic group,was born in  Xingping, Shaanxi, who is also a Associate Professor, Vice Dean of the Art Academy as well as a member of Gansu Artists Association and a representative of Gansu Artists Association.

From 1995 to 1999, he studied oil painting in Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts and gained a bachelor's degree. From 2009 to 2012, he studied contemporary and contemporary literature in Lanzhou University College of Literature and received a master's degree. He has worked in Lanzhou University Art College since 1999. From 2003 to 2005, the postgraduate course of Oil Painting Department of China Academy of Fine Arts was further studied.
